Tourism establishments recognised under Sustainable Seychelles tourism label

Seychelles now has a total of 183 recognised and 26 certified tourism properties under the Sustainable Seychelles Tourism Label programme. This milestone reflects the growing national commitment to environmentally responsible and culturally respectful tourism practices.

During a ceremony held at Eden Bleu Hotel yesterday evening, 70 new tourism establishments received recognition, while Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte was newly certified. The certificates were presented by the Tourism Department, in acknowledgment of their continued commitment to sustainability.

The Sustainable Seychelles Recognition and Certification Programme is a national initiative aimed at encouraging sustainable practices across the tourism sector. It applies to accommodations, restaurants, and tour operators throughout the islands. The programme is designed to support tourism businesses in integrating responsible environmental management, energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and community engagement into their daily operations.

Principal Secretary for Tourism, Sherin Francis, addressed the attendees and emphasized the importance of maintaining Seychelles’ natural beauty and cultural authenticity. She highlighted that sustainability is not only a responsibility but also a competitive advantage for the tourism industry, especially as global travelers increasingly seek experiences that respect nature and local communities.

For Swedish travelers and those in Scandinavia, sustainability is a defining value. The continued growth of this programme strengthens Seychelles’ appeal as a destination that shares these environmental priorities and offers meaningful, nature-conscious travel experiences.

Salim C. Mathieu, Founder of Seychelles in Sweden, notes that the progress of the Sustainable Seychelles programme demonstrates leadership in preserving the islands’ natural environment while supporting long-term tourism development.
