President meets Seychelles’ Arnold Classic champions, Signals Sport as a Pillar of Youth Empowerment and National Development

Seychellois athletes who earned top honours at the Arnold Classic Physique 2025, met with the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, to reflect on their achievements and to discuss the role of sport in advancing youth development and national progress.

During the engagement held on Tuesday at State House, in the presence of the Minister for Youth and Sport, Ms Kalsey Belle, bodybuilder Wallace Dorasamy, who secured top honours in the Open Class Bodybuilding (Classic Physique) category, and Tara De Lafontaine, who competed in the Open Class Women Figure category, shared insights into their discipline, preparation, and experiences on the international stage.

President Herminie emphasised that their accomplishments reflect the values of competence, dedication and discipline, noting that athletes play a critical role as role models for young people.

These achievements remind us that with discipline, purpose, and the right support, our youth can compete and succeed on any stage in the world.

He underscored the need for young people to engage in meaningful and positive activities, highlighting sport as a powerful tool to steer them away from drugs and towards disciplined, productive lifestyles.

Discussions also focused on upcoming international engagements, including participation in the Olympia competition scheduled for September, where Dorasamy is expected to once again represent Seychelles globally.

Having already competed in 22 international competitions, he reaffirmed his commitment to raising the national flag with pride and distinction on the global stage.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Dorasamy spoke candidly about the challenges he has faced, sharing the message that “sport saved me,” and illustrating how sport can provide direction, purpose and transformation.

The engagement further highlighted the importance of structured and sustained support for athletes.

Dorasamy expressed appreciation for the guidance of his assistant coach, Tara De Lafontaine, as well as the continued support of the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Ministry responsible for sports, whose contributions remain vital to athlete development and high-performance success.

The President reiterated government’s commitment to strengthening the development of sport in Seychelles, recognising its role not only in fostering excellence, but also in shaping a healthier and empowered generation.
