Marriage in Seychelles for Swedish Couples

For many Swedish couples, Seychelles is the ideal destination to celebrate love. White sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and a relaxed island atmosphere create the perfect backdrop for a memorable ceremony. The purpose of this section is to provide a simple and reliable guide to help Swedish couples understand the process of legally getting married in Seychelles.

Documents Required

To ensure that your marriage is valid under Seychelles law, the following documents are required:

• A certified copy of the pages in your passport showing personal details and photo. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
• A certified copy of your birth certificate.
• If your birth certificate is not already in English or French, a certified translation into English or French is required.
• If you have changed your name, provide a certified copy of the legal document confirming the change, with translation if needed.
• If previously married, provide a certified divorce decree or death certificate of the former spouse, translated if required.
• A certified marital status certificate stating you are free to marry, translated into English or French.
• A completed marriage application form.

There is a processing fee for marriage applications. The amount varies based on the date and the location of the ceremony.

Application Timing

It is recommended that all documents be submitted to the Immigration and Civil Status Office at least two months before the desired wedding date. Documents may be sent by email in scanned form or submitted in original form.

The exact date and location of the ceremony must be confirmed with the Immigration and Civil Status Office no later than eleven days before the wedding date.

Couples must arrive in Seychelles at least four days before the ceremony to finalize arrangements and complete any final confirmations.

Ceremony Locations

Seychelles allows you to choose a ceremony location that reflects your vision. Options include:

• Civil ceremony at the Civil Status Office in Victoria
• Ceremony arranged through your hotel
• Ceremony at a private beach, garden, or scenic location of your choice

If the ceremony takes place outside an official venue, additional registration or location fees may apply. Many hotels offer dedicated wedding coordinators who can assist with planning, setup, and ceremony arrangements.

Registration of the Marriage in Sweden

Once married in Seychelles, Swedish couples may register the marriage at home in Sweden through Skatteverket. To do so, you will need:

• The original Seychelles marriage certificate with Apostille
• A certified translation of the certificate into Swedish, English, or French if required

Your local Skatteverket office will provide guidance on registering the marriage for full recognition in Sweden.
