An Evening of Friendship as Seychelles Joins India’s 77th Republic Day Celebrations

The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr Patrick Herminie, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Véronique Herminie, joined diplomats, officials and guests to celebrate the 77th Republic Day of India at a reception hosted by the High Commissioner of India to Seychelles, H.E. Mr Rohit Rathish.


More than a ceremonial observance, the evening became a moment of connection and reflection, highlighting the close and enduring friendship between Seychelles and India a relationship shaped by decades of cooperation, mutual respect and people-to-people ties that continue to grow across generations, particularly in areas such as maritime security, capacity building, education, healthcare, renewable energy and infrastructure development.


The formal programme commenced with the national anthems of the Republic of India and Seychelles, performed. This followed by a video presentation highlighting the India-Seychelles journey and bilateral relationship.


In his remarks and ceremonial toast, High Commissioner Rohit Rathish underscored the depth of the Seychelles–India partnership, describing it as one built on trust, solidarity and a shared vision for peace and development. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Seychelles’ national development priorities and to further strengthening cooperation across key strategic sectors.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the government of Seychelles, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora Mr. Barry Faure, expressed appreciation for India’s longstanding support and friendship. The Minister highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in addressing common challenges, including regional security, climate change and sustainable development, before proposing a toast to the continued success of bilateral relations.


The evening was further enriched by a cultural programme showcasing both Indian and Seychellois artistic expression. Performances included a Tamil classical dance presented by Seychellois artists alongside an Indian cultural team, symbolising cultural exchange and people-to-people ties. This was followed by a Fab Jazz performance and concluded with an energetic Bhangra dance, which was warmly received by the audience.


The programme concluded with closing remarks and a dinner reception, providing guests with an opportunity for informal interaction and further strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties.


The presence of President Herminie and the First Lady at the celebration highlighted the importance Seychelles attaches to its relationship with India, a trusted partner and long-standing friend. The 77th Republic Day reception stood as a reaffirmation of the strong bonds that unite the two nations and their shared commitment to deepening cooperation in the years ahead.
